Drug Uses

Buspar provides a brief cheer from anxiety symptoms. It can also be utilized for some other specific conditions as and when decided by your medical practitioner.


Kindly follow the usage instructions given by your doctor strictly. Read the label if you feel that you missed some points. Do not stop the medication without inquiring about it with the medical practitioner. Buspar can be taken with or without a meal but the recommendation is to take it after food. Try not to make yourself dehydrated while on Buspar medication. Drink lots of water. Avoid the consumption of grapefruit juice while you are taking the dosage. The medication shouldn't be stopped even if you feel better as it is a course that has to be completed. Having the medicine at the same time every day is tested proven method for best results.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Buspar being an antianxiety agent relieves anxiety. But exactly it works is still not known. However, it is believed that it can react with some chemical receptors in your brain.

Missed Dose

Despite your best attempts at remembering, if you still miss out on a dose, then take it as soon as you remember about it. But keep in mind that you will have to adjust your next dose by spacing it out by 4 to 5 hours. If this is not possible, then the best thing to do would be to skip the missed dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never try to adjust the dosage by taking a double dose simultaneously. It may cause adverse effects.


Store Buspar at room temperature (read medicine label if unsure). Ensure that the medicine is in a cool, dark, place that is not directly exposed to sources of heat or moisture and sunlight. Moreover, keep away from kids and pets.
Doctors do not ask to take Buspar if you are allergic to any component in it or if you are a liver or kidney disease patient, or you are taking furazolidone, or sodium oxybate, GHB, or MAOI or monoamine oxidase inhibitor or have taken it MAOI in the preceding 14 days.

Acknowledge your old and new medical archives in detail with your doctor before commencing treatment with any new medication. If you are currently taking any medicine including vitamin supplements please mention it also.

Under certain medications, doctors will keep on monitoring you to check your response to the medicine and to check if any adverse effects are there. Dosages may be modified accordingly. If you are conceiving for pregnancy, breastfeeding, or pregnant, or if you are having some kind of medicine, allergic to medicines or food, alcoholic, had kidney or liver problems, or if you are under serious stress that induces suicidal thoughts.

Buspar may have a reaction with a number of other medicines like azole antifungals, furazolidone or MAOIs, carbamazepine, and even GHB or Sodium Oxybate and may bring in some serious consequences. So while you are having the dosage of Buspar, make sure you take the essential precautions.
