Bisacodyl is a stimulant laxative. It works directly on the colon to produce a bowel movement. It also alters water and electrolyte levels in the intestines, increasing the level of fluids which also produce a laxative-like effect.

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor. If you are self-treating, follow all directions on the product package carefully. They are best taken at bedtime.

There are no significant drug interactions. Side effects of Bisacodyl are abdominal cramping, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, rectal burning, and fluid and electrolyte imbalance.
